Information Skills In English class, my teacher introduced to us an essay contest. This time the subject was "The Right To Vote". We were to write if formal or informal barriers remain today and what changes we would we make to Americans voting rights. . Learning how people were affected during those times and this really helped writing the essay. The requirements for the essay was to show understanding of the 15th and 19th amendments, explain constitutional powers and rights in court cases, and discuss the role of the judicial branch in preserving our right to vote. - I had to do a lot of research for this essay. Researching about how people are being affected by some voting laws currently and also in the 20th century. Learning about Supreme Court cases having to do with American voting rights and being able to understand what was really going on. I looked up statistics on what people in particular are being targeted by these barriers, For example, people of color, felons, women, etc.
