Description of Work/Assignment: For our Algebra 2 project we had to create an educational and creative dance movement video inspired by functions. Each hand movement had to correlate with a specific functions equation. After we had our ten equations we had to choose a song. I chose Girl Like Me by Shakira and then filmed a bunch of fun bits dancing. I even included my dog and friend.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
Thinking and Problem Solving - Thinking and problem solving was a very important aspect of this project. I had to understand all the different functions and their formulas. I had to come up with my own equations that I could then easily turn into a dance move. Some of the equations I had to come up with in the spot when we were filming, just so they would fit better with the music.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of how I was able to make it really fun for myself. For the first half I filmed it at the beach with my friend and we just did some moves but I knew I wanted something a little more entertaining. So one day I came up with the idea to do an 80s inspired workout video. I’m glad I did it because it added a lot more to the video.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I improved upon my Thinking and Problem Solving skills because I had to come up with a lot of the equations on the spot to fit the music and beats.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part about completing this task was finding correct formulas and coming up with equations that would translate easily into hand movements. Positive and negative signs affected if you went left, right, or up, down. So that would get quite confusing especially for the functions that I wasn’t quite familiar with I just kind of had to wing it.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I could improve this work I would’ve just done the 80s workout bit and had included a friend into it. It was kind of a last minute idea so I did it all myself but if i were to start over I would’ve done a more fun 80s part with more people.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? This relates to what I have learned in the post because of how I’m able to use equations I learn about and being able to incorporate them into real life.
How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply this to future learning because functions are a part of everyday life and when coming across equations I need to solve I will know how !
