Source Analysis Project
Name of Assignment: Source Analysis Presentation Headless Romans
Subject: Humanities
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms.Terry
Description of Work/Assignment:
In class we were working on summarizing and analyzing sources. For the beginning of this project we were given a list of topics/sources to choose from. Whoever listed their names under the topic you also chose would be your group partners. I was more drawn to a video/documentary called Headless Romans. It’s quite an interesting title that I was willing to learn more about. We all then went on a zoom call with just our groups so we could discuss how we would all work together on a slide show. The presentation had to include our source analysis, summary of source, analysis, and group discussion takeaways. After a couple days we presented in front of our class.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
The 21st Century Skill this assignment addresses is definitely interpersonal skills. Interpersonal Skills is teamwork, listening, and being respectful towards other people in your group. Effective communication with my group members was the most important and crucial part of this project. Talking along Zoom does make this a little harder to do but the group discussions worked pretty well.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
What I’m most proud of from this assignment is how we all worked together and put in work. I think we had a pretty good outcome. The presentation was easy to understand so other classmates could grasp the topic. I’m also proud of myself for making sure everything was perfect and that everyone was doing their part.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
My interpersonal skills developed in a new effective way for doing projects over zoom. When we're in person it’s a lot easier for everyone to take control and communicate, but with being on zoom my skills have definitely improved. For example, asking my partners more questions and talking more within our group.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
What was most difficult upon completing this task was figuring out what everyone could do. We all watched the same video and had the same information but organizing it in a good slideshow was hard. For example, some information seemed repetitive or some people had a lot more info.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could improve this work I would make sure everyone had a good understanding of the topic and before doing anything at all, we would all know what role we had in the group and what information we should be looking for.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to what I've learned in the past because Ancient Rome is something we went over in middle school, so I already had the construct in my head on how it was and what type of lifestyle they were living. When I first heard the topic “Headless Romans” my brain went to warfare or a destructive ruler.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning with being able to understand and process information from videos. Being able to watch a documentary and gather notes is a good skill to have. I will definitely remember the interpersonal skills I learned from this project if we continue on with virtual learning.
